FAQs
- What is Clinical Massage Therapy?
- Theoretically, a style of bodywork that involves evaluation and specific treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction.
In practice, in addition to deep specific work, many of our therapists incorporate light touch, relaxation and energy components
to the treatment.
- The therapy rooms are designed for relaxation and you will find that the emphasis of the treatment remains upon stress reduction; particularly for those in pain, which only adds to stress levels.
- A typical Clinical Massage Therapy session begins with a full evaluation, which may include general lifestyle questions and a postural or joint assessment. This helps the therapist determine the most appropriate treatment plan that will benefit
each individual client's needs. Each therapist has developed their own unique style of therapy through training and experience, and may use a combination of the techniques described on our Therapies page.
Treatments end with a re-evaluation, feedback on the session and homecare advice to prolong the benefit of the treatment.
- Do you accept insurance?
- Unfortunately medical insurance will not pay for massage therapy that is not performed in a medical setting. Workers Compensation and Auto Insurance may
reimburse you for prescribed massage therapy. Consult your doctor and insurance company prior to your treatment.
- Do I have to disrobe completely?
-
- Many techniques do not require the client to disrobe and others can be easily adapted. The client is always given the right to refuse any portion of the
treatment, including disrobing. Please communicate your feelings fully to your therapist and your wishes will always be respected.
- Do you offer Alternative Healthcare Treatments?
- All Healing Room practitioners are State Licensed and Nationally Certified Clinical Massage Therapists and use only soft tissue mobilizations to promote your body's
inate healing mechanism. See the Treatments page for specific information about the manual therapies available.
- Do you offer Deep Tissue Massage?
- Our experienced therapists will only work as deeply as the body requires. Clients who feel they need DEEP DEEP work often actually need several sessions
of Myofascial techniques first, to enable the deeper levels of muscle to be effectively accessed.
- Will I be sore afterwards?
- We do our best to minimize any discomfort, however there may be some residual soreness the day after certain treatments. This can be minimized by drinking
additional water the day before, and after therapy to assist the body in flushing out waste products that were released, and by following any homecare
recommendations given by your therapist. If soreness is a concern for you, please communicate this to your therapist.
- Do you have a shower available?
- We do not have shower facilities. If you receive a treatment which uses oils or lotions, your therapist will be happy to provide you with a towel to
remove any excess oil. You may also request no oil be used in your treatment.
- Are you Disabled Accessible?
- We are located on the ground floor and our entryways are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs; however we do not have mechanised tables which raise and lower. If you are
unable to access the table, we may be able to provide a modified seated treatment. Please call or email us for further information.
